Thanbang was amazing and so informative and knew what he was talking about. I also enjoyed meeting the residents of Soweto especially the daycare kids, they were soo adorable and sweet. The experience was worth the money!

Soweto Tour - Fascinating

I took the half day tour and here are my thoughts : Pick up was prompt at 13.30 from my Sandton hotel. We drove to the Apartheid Museum to liaise with visitors doing the 1 day Joburg tour. On the half day tour there is no visit to the Apartheid museum. We then drove around Soweto, to the 3 different types of accommodation , including a walk with a Soweto resident through her neighbourhood. The tour was very informative, very safe and smoothly organised. Do remember to bring some sweets for the kids, seeing how much they enjoy them is a real highlight. This tour operator works with local groups in Soweto to support development projects. By going on this tour you are already helping.

My family and I had an afternoon free from an otherwise organized tour. We registered with Viator to visit Soweto Township and very glad we did. We have two adult children who really got a first had view of what segregation and apartheid is really about. The Apartheid museum is moving and not to be missed.

Very Informative Tour

I had an excellent driver/guide who made everyone feel at ease and comfortable with each other although we were strangers. She gave us insight into life in Soweto and took us to a township where we were able to go into 1 of the container homes. And the children were lively and inquisitive. I really enjoyed this tour.

A compelling guided tour with a visit to Soweto Township, Nelson Mandela’s house & museum, the Hector Pieterson Memorial & Museum. Plus other interesting sites. Emma our tour guide was the best.

Soweto - the scars of apartheid, the hopes of tomorrow

This tour was run by MoAfika. Our guide, Mandisa, and the driver, Piwa, were from the township. This 5-hour tour was leisurely, yet highly educational. I was picked up punctually and after a few other pick-ups, we drove to Soweto, visiting the high, medium and low ends of the township. We eventually got a chance to mingle with the locals and to visit an actual family home in the community. Upon our request, we made an impromptu stop to sample Soweto Gold, the local beer. We then visited Mandela and Tutu residences, before stopping at the Hector Pieterson museum. Overall, it was a very informative and well-organised tour.

Sonny collected us punctually from...

Sonny collected us punctually from the hotel at Monte and was friendly. The van was clean and spacious. The actual tour was disappointing - a stop at Hector Pietersen museum but we were left on our own with no guide to wander around. Dreary display and dirty and littered outside. Back in the car - not even given a bottle of water let alone a Famous Black Label in a shebeen. Weren't even offered to get out on the famous street where Mandela lived and the stalls are all open. So much litter in Soweto apparently because of the municipal strikes but strange how everyone else in other suburbs manages to keep their refuse in bin bags on their own property whereas in Soweto it is in huge piles all over the open areas and in the streets. Soweto developed better than expected and a surprisingly small amount of electric fences and security - everyone should move there! All in all an overpriced tourist trip :

What an amazing day out, our guide...

What an amazing day out, our guide Khusto was amazing. He collected us on time 10min early actually and took us on a wonderful tour of Soweto. We visited the Regina Mundi Church, Hector Pieterson Memorial / Museum, Vilakazi Street and even stopped outside the Mandela house. Khutso answered all of our questions that we had, which were not many cause of how he explained everything in detail to us. From booking the tour, making payment, going on the tour and the guide there was nothing to faulty at all. We will certainly inform all of our friends and work colleagues about the local tour operator. Well done guys and keep up the good work.
