Our driver, Lynn, arrived promptly at our agreed upon time in a very comfortable vehicle. She made it a very smooth journey for us and shared her knowledge of the area with us along the way. We enjoyed our ride up with her so much that we spent most of the safari saying “I wish Lynn was here with us for this!” She was happy to stop at any viewpoint we requested and took great care of us throughout the day. Thank you, Lynn!

Great trip, from being collected at the hotel and driven to the resort. The safari itself was excellent and full of info I didn’t know before hand!
Once in a lifetime - you've just GOT to book this trip!

Wow - what a trip this was, you know THAT day you look back on your holiday from and say it was the best? Well, this was it - it started being picked up by our Tour Guide Dave, a lovely man who I felt was an old friend by the end of the day in a beautiful Jaguar XF (we had a common love for Jaguars which did help!) - he collected us from our apartment in Bloubergstrand which was an added bonus.
Dave toured us up to Aquila in style, stopping off for a coffee on route and we had a great conversation all of the way there, like I said, I felt like I'd known him years by the time we got there!
Upon arrival we had a welcome drink and were taken in for a meal pre-safari (I had a gorgeous lamb curry). We were so grateful to have Dave with us, who knew the exact time to go down to the jeep just before the crowds to bag the best seats and he did just that - we got the front row so had an awesome view and were right next to Stephen who drove the jeep across the bush.
We had a 3.5 hour game drive only broken up by another complimentary drink - where we were immediately greeted by Hippopotamus , Zebra and Rhino - and it teed the tour off to a great start. We eventually seen 4 of the Big 5 including the Lions and Elephants - a real result, only the leopard (which I believe doesn't come out most days) is what we missed.
We were returned back to the lodge where Dave was there to greet us and drive us back to our apartment in Blouberg.
This was a once in a lifetime experience, one that was made to feel VIP by booking the private tour - I can't recommend you to book this trip enough - what a day!

Do not book with this...

Do not book with this scam company they real name is born in Africa tours and they should call themselves just a transportation company cause the real name of the place that they take you to is called the aquila game reserve that actually have the safari itself and you have to pay an additional 99.76 in usd per person then they claim to take you to a winery on your way back to your room they ain't do none of that and they claim to pick you up in a luxury vehicle when your going to be picked up in a old Mercedes car dave and George and viator should be ashamed of themselves selfs for fake advertisements no clear instructions on what is being paid for and scamming people in general with three different name plus the aquila game reserve has their own transportation to take you their so don't waste your time with this company period
Response from Host , Feb 2022
The truth of the matter is that we provided the service exactly as described on Viator and Tripadvisor (with no winery stop mentioned anywhere !).
We also messaged you through Viator, sent you an sms and called you the evening before the trip to confirm that you were happy with all the conditions - which you did.
On arrival at the game reserve the following day, you made the most awful scene in the public reception area, swearing and shouting at the top of your voice and verbally abusing the game reserve staff when you were requested to pay the entrance fee.
When you didn't get your way, you requested a refund from Viator. When this was declined, you posted this defamatory and libelous review in a deliberate attempt to damage our business and our good reputation.
This is not a review. It is a malicious rant penned by someone who thinks that if they make a big enough scene they will get away with having to pay for services provided.

The great experience begins when the tour operator actually CALLED me the night before to verify everything. It may not seem like much but it was a great beginning to an awesome day. Dave was great company on our drive to the safari! The lunch was awesome and I saw 4 out of 5! I felt safe, comfortable, and taken care of the entire time. That's my kind of excursion!

Want to have fun, feel safe but also feel like a VIP? Definitely book this Safari tour!

Dave was an incredible guide. He coordinated everything with me beforehand and thankfully he was able to adjust a change in pick-up location.
As a solo petite female traveller, I felt very safe and taken care of on this tour. The drive to the safari was a beautiful drive through the mountains and Dave made sure to explain all the surroundings around me. The vineyards, the baboons, the townships etc. He was also very keen on the fact that I did have a late night the night before so when I needed to nap for a bit, I didn't feel awkward sleeping while he drove. It really felt like a road trip with a close friend.
The Game Reserve was a beautiful resort and because we arrived early, he suggested that I had time to get a massage at the spa, which was perfect and the lunch was delicious.
Dave definitely knew everyone at the reserve so I truly felt like I was a VIP.
The private safari was INCREDIBLE and I got photos that were so close to the animals, it was a once in a lifetime experience.
I would highly recommend this tour with Dave, he's a new friend I have found in Cape Town.

I'd ride anywhere with Dave. Very comfortable ride, very great conversation. Even allowed me to stop to get some pictures of some baboons along the road. I highly recommend him for any tour.
Thanks again

I can’t recommend this trip enough, managing to see 4 of the big 5. The guides were excellent. But what really added to the day was our driver Mike who took us to from Cape Town to the game reserve. He was brilliant and very informative, providing so much information and interesting stories on the trip which really added to the experience. Definitely not a trip to miss!

Mike was our driver, guide, expert, dj, and made our day exceptional. He couldn’t do enough for us. He is passionate for his country and gave us so much information.
The game park drive was good, saw everything except leopard, so was satisfied.
Would recommend this private tour. Value for money.
Wonderful day

We absolutely loved our safari tour. Our day started with our wonderful tour guide Dave picking us up from our b&b. Our first meeting with Dave was fantastic, he’s a friendly kind chatty genuinely lovely guy and it was liked being picked up by a great friend we’ve known for years. Dave was absolutely full of fantastic facts and knowledge and jokes and the journey flew by. He made sure when we arrived that we were checked in and shown for lunch which was a really nice buffet lunch. He then took us to safari jeeps and made sure we were seated in fantastic seats for our safari. Our safari guide and driver was a funny and informative guy who went out of his way to make sure he gave us the best opportunity to take some amazing photos especially the lions and elephants, it was a nice touch to stop off for a glass of sparkling wine and have a chat with the rest of our jeep group and guide. On our arrival back Dave was waiting to greet us and transport us safely back to our accommodation. All in all we loved this safari taster trip and really enjoyed our day which was certainly made better by the enjoyable company of Dave and our safari guide.
Not much to see
zstarkey27
, Feb 2020
There were a few rescue animals at a large area so most of the experience was traveling on the jeep from one place to another. You can see these animals in the zoo too, for much cheaper entrance fee. There were only 4 out of the big 5 in the reserve. The whole experience cost 400 British pound for 2 persons which is certainly not wortwhile. Lunch was OK, we would have spent a little more time eating, but we needed to finish it earlier as the jeep was about to leave. Two main courses were provided, one of them was mainly bones of lamb. It is a long journey from Capetown with no sights to see as far as Aquila, the private transfer it is not necesseraly much shorter than the coach trip which costs less.
Response from Host , Feb 2020
We are sorry that you did not enjoy the Big Five Game Safari as so many of our other visitors have done (they do have the Big Five by the way – the leopard is nocturnal and is seldom seen during the day).
This 25 000 acre private game reserve cannot be compared to a zoo. It is a Big Five wildlife conservatory with a major focus on preserving the Rhino species for future generations. Most of the animals are re-introduced game and are not able to hunt for themselves. They have been given a second chance at survival in as natural a habitat as possible.
Our day trip is a unique opportunity for visitors who are short of time to enjoy an African safari experience that would take many more days and dollars to replicate in a large game reserve like the Kruger National Park.
So whether you choose the bus or our luxury option, you have contributed to a great wildlife conservation effort for which we are grateful.
A Game Park Tour to Remember

Dave Coxton was excellent company for the two and a half hours drive to the Aquila Safari Park, full of local knowledge and a good conversationalist generally. The Safari Park had modern administrative buildings and caring staff to supply lunch and then the safari. We were guided by Nicholas who was very informative about the animals and had a nice sense of humour whilst keeping us all safe on his safari wagon. We saw four of the big five, as expected the leopards were not to be seen as they are nocturnal. The area is quite barren with few trees for shade therefore the hippos and rhinos were using the lakes to keep moist and cool while the lions used bushes and rocks for shade. Nicholas was well-acquainted with the park and knew where the animals were likely to be seen. The elephants were entertaining as they threw dust over themselves to keep cool. A two and a half hour safari passed quite quickly and the group were left satisfied with the animals spotted. It is either 3100 rand for a couple to enter the park and have lunch or 3500 in high season. To see wild animals up close this was money well-spent. Dave took a different route home which gave us a comprehensive view of the scenery outside Cape Town and also avoided traffic jams that his wife had reported to him whilst we were on safari, a clever move that saved us a load of travelling time. We can recommend Dave and his Born in Africa business as reasonably priced and offer great companionship for the five hours we were together in his beautiful Jaguar car.
Mike was awesome!!!

We had an amazing day with Mike! He took us through different route on the way forward and backwards, so that we can see as much as possible of different scenery along the way. Ask for Mike when booking and he'll definitely do his best for you to have a great day :) We managed to see 4 out of the Big 5, which was quite amazing. 100% recommend
Great Safari Experience in one day
JhoannaJean_A
, Jan 2020
If you're staying in Cape Town for a short time, this is a great way to experience a safari in one day. Essentially this is a private transfer to and from Aquila Private Reserve (takes about 2.5hrs each way). They also help to organise your booking at the Reserve, which you pay for separately (not part of the cost of this item). The safari itself is a great experience; you can get fairly close to the animals. We were able to see four of the Big Five plus other animals such as Giraffes, Zebras and Ostriches.
In our case, our names were not initially found at the Reserve for some reason, but our guide, James, was able to work things out for us and we were able to join the safari as planned. James was a great guide/driver, providing a good amount of information on Cape Town and South Africa's history on the way to the Reserve and back again. He made sure we were well-taken care of.

We perform checks on reviews
You can only submit a review or rating of an experience to Viator if you were the person who made the booking through Viator. Before publication, each review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information for each of the following criteria: who, what, how, and when. If the system detects something that contradicts our publication criteria, the review is not published. When the system detects a problem with a review, it may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site. In some cases, we will also send you an email asking you to validate your review before it is published. All you need to do is click on the link provided in the email. After publication, our team checks each review reported to it as not meeting our publication criteria. Tripadvisor reviews that appear on the Viator site are subject to the same checks and moderation processes as set out above. It is not necessary to have booked an experience through Viator (or Tripadvisor) to submit a review of an experience to the Tripadvisor site.
