The Basics

At the village, you can admire the riotous color schemes of tribal beehive huts, experience traditional dances and foods, talk with individuals from different tribal backgrounds, and even stay overnight. Many half-day Lesedi cultural tours are available from Johannesburg and Pretoria. Some tours combine visits to Aha Lesedi with stops at the Apartheid Museum, Pilanesberg National Park, and the Cradle of Humankind.

I really enjoyed this activity and I learned a lot. The people are really nice and they put on a good show. You get to do a walking tour of the village which is also a resort. At the end there was a pan-African buffet which was excellent. Definitely recommend.

Lesedi cultural village tour
Very nice tour. Combination of a cultural experience (brief history of South Africa, South African tribes, their traditions, food, houses, dances and songs) and of South African nature. In both places broad choice of souvenirs available. Good and friendly driver, excellent buffet -lunch.

OUTSTANDING EXECURSION

Private Cradle of Human Kind Tour and Lesedi Cultural Village Day Tour
This excursion included 3 tours in one. The tour started at the cradle of mankind caves. I will warn you the cave portion is not for anyone with any health limiting issues. The tour moved on to the Ledesi African Culture show and lunch. All I can say is well done! The tour ended at the cradle of mankind museum. Just one of these tours would make this excursion worth it. However, you get 3!!!

Lesedi Cultural Village and Lion Park tour
Great experience with interesting information about the tribes found in the village. We particularly enjoyed the traditional dance show and the tour around the village was engaging. We got up close and personal with the lions in the Lion Park too. That was absolutely awesome! The tour is highly recommend.

When to Get There

Visitors typically arrive on a half-day guided tour from Johannesburg or opt to stay the night in a traditional homestead. The overnight stays include a dance show in an African lodge, meals, and other optional activities. The best times to visit the Johannesburg area are from March to May and September to November. These low season months ensure fewer crowds, warm and dry weather, and lower prices.

Overnight Stays atAha Lesedi

Those wishing to immerse themselves in a true African experience can stay overnight in a traditional beehive hut, with all the modern conveniences supplied. The head of the household will act as a guide and take visitors to the traditional "boma" or dance show, followed by a meal that includes traditional African foods such as potjiekos (a meat stew cooked in a black cast-iron pot with maize porridge), or even crocodile, kudu, or warthog.
